From war reporter and author to therapist for the vulnerable

From war reporter and author to therapist for the vulnerable

Brand identity, logo design, stationery, and web design for Danish journalist Mette Ellegaard who started her career as a therapist in 2015. The website presents the services that Mette provides, and a blog with her latest activities. The project was a collaboration with Full-Stack developer Bilal Isa.

Concept

Concept

Journalist Mette Ellegaard wanted to present her new brand and website as welcoming, as a place for opening up, and as a safe space. At the same time, she wanted to showcase her experience in helping people through therapy. Her personal connection to nature inspired the visual design of the brand. The concepts were translated into fragile-looking illustrations, a predominantly green color palette, and paper textures.

The logo was based on the meaning of ‘allumette’, which means ‘matchstick’ in French, in which Mette is fluent. The design of the logo is readable with the playful underline and dot to reference a matchstick.

The products designed for the Allumette brand includes business cards, a promotional flyer, and a responsive website. The website was build using Squarespace.

Process

Process

The design process was based on the input provided by Mette and artist Niels McNair, who created the watercolor illustrations and contributed with photos. The three of us held design sessions where we chose the illustrations and photos. The photos were adjusted to the color palette of the website, while adding the textures of the papers used by Niels to illustrate.

Niels’s illustrations were digitized and used as background textures for the website and the stationery, as well as the favicon for the website.

Below there is an example of an original photo and its edited version using the color palette and the paper texture.  Also there’s an example of an original watercolor illustration and its vector version.
