These animations show the so-called ephemeral cities, i.e. cities that settle for a determined period of time. These are born as a response to temporary needs such as refugee camps, displacement due to political or climatic tensions, temporary towns dedicated to the extraction of natural resources, or cities assembled for religious celebrations.

The main case study presented at the Ephemeral Urbanism pavilion: Cities in Constant Flux is the Kumbh Mela. This is a megacity that is assembled every 12 years in India, where a religious celebration takes place with a flux of 19 million attendees. The planning of its infrastructure guarantees the necessary services and housing adapted to the natural conditions of the territory.

The animations show the flux of attendees, diagrams representing social and political organization of the events, the infrastructural and landscape change that the ephemeral cities experiment.

The videos were made in collaboration with curators Rahul Mehrotra and Felipe Vera and edited by Henry Bauer and Cristian Pino Anguita.
