The background and story
A Fox’s Journey is a video game designed in response to the lack of motivation and sense of agency of people towards taking pro-environmental actions in the effort to mitigate climate change. The project consisted of a research phase where the main focus was the assessment of the existing narratives related to climate change, emotion elicitation through media technology, game theories, UX and graphic design theories. This game is an emotional journey, where the player has the chance to see the direct impact of their daily actions in a very distant character: an Arctic Fox.
The Arctic Fox suffered the change of its environment. The arctic tundra shrank giving space to the boreal forest, where new hostile predators and human-produced pollution menace the existence of any animal incapable of adapt…or run away!
Your choices make the difference! You can help the tiny Arctic Fox to get safely to its environment.
Art director, designer and producer of all the graphic assets for the game. Ranging from planning of the level design for three chapters (Boreal forest, Tundra and Arctic), character emotional states and postures, UI elements to implementation of 2D lights in Unity. All these tasks were directed by our grounded theory research and our user testing iterations.
Based on my personal interest, I took part on the research tasks, specially in climate change retaled narratives, their influences in emotional involvement and actual action from individuals. I also did some research in emotion elicitation in games and applied my background in graphic design to it. Additionally, I rigged and animated the Red Fox, which is to be included in further development.
